Tutorial: Wrapping stitches / Maschen umwickeln

Wrapped Rainbow Socks

Today I want to show you how to achieve a cool effect in your knitting by wrapping stitches. I’ve used it for my Wrapped Rainbow Socks, which are available on Ravelry, Payhip, and Lovecrafts.

I’ve knit the first stitches of the round, the next 10 stitches are the ones I want to wrap.

Hold the next 10 stitches on a cable needle or a spare dpn to the front of the work.

Wrap the working yarn around the 10 stitches. You can play around and see if you like it better wrapped clockwise or anti clockwise and how tight you want to wrap.

I’ve wrapped the yarn around the stitches 3 times clockwise.

Now work the stitches as they appear – for the Wrapped Rainbow Socks that is (k2, p2) twice, k2.
